How to send text as a voice message in Telegram

Short answer: Telegram has no button that turns typed text into a voice message — its Premium feature list only goes the other way, voice-to-text (Telegram Premium FAQ). Send the text to @smolevich_voice_bot instead: it reads it in the voice you picked and replies with a voice message you can forward to any chat.

Listen first: one note, three voices

Text: "Hey, I'm in a meeting — I'll call you back within the hour. Budget's approved, we're on for Tuesday."

Aria · English (US)
Aria — female voice
Guy · English (US)
Guy — male voice
Svetlana · Russian
Svetlana — the same note in Russian: "Слушай, я сейчас на встрече, перезвоню через час. По бюджету всё ок, договорились на вторник."

All three are built-in voices, 5 credits per minute of audio.

Step by step

  1. Open @smolevich_voice_bot and tap Start.
  2. Tap "🎭 Voice" → "🎧 Format" → "🎙 Voice message". Don't skip this one: by default the bot replies with an audio file, not a voice note with a waveform.
  3. Same screen, "🎙 Pick a voice": built-in voices come as a female and a male voice per language, 🔊 plays a preview.
  4. Send your text as a regular message. A voice message comes back in a few seconds.
  5. Forward it to the chat you need.

Persian text to speech

Persian has two built-in voices, Dilara (female) and Farid (male). Persian and Arabic share an alphabet, so the bot looks for letters only Persian has (پ چ ژ گ). Found them while another language is selected — it switches to a Persian voice itself and tells you so.

FAQ

Is there a free text to speech bot for Telegram?

Yes. Every month the free balance tops back up to 200 credits. Built-in voices cost 5 credits a minute, so that's about 40 minutes of voice messages a month — no Premium, no card.

Can I send text as a voice message without Telegram Premium?

Yes, the bot works on any account.

Why did I get an audio file instead of a voice message?

Most likely the format is still the default "🎵 Audio file" — switch it to "🎙 Voice message". Or you have Premium and restricted who can send you voice messages: Telegram rejects the bot's voice note, and the bot sends a file instead. Allow the bot in Settings → Privacy & Security → Voice Messages.

How long can the text be?

You pay for the length of the resulting audio: one minute is roughly 870 characters. The 200 free credits cover about 35,000 characters with a built-in voice.

More details
  • Language guess. If your voice is set to one language and you write in Russian, English, Arabic, Persian or Hindi, the bot picks a voice for the text's alphabet and tells you about the switch.
  • Quality. "🌍 Multilingual" is the built-in voices, 5 credits a minute. "🎙 Studio" is about 145credits a minute — the free balance covers a bit over a minute. Switch it in "🎭 Quality".
  • Armenian is available on the studio voices only; there are no built-in Armenian voices.
  • How minutes are counted. You're charged for the audio length, rounded up to a whole credit. 870 characters a minute is the speaking rate the bot uses for its estimate before it voices the text.
  • Packs:$2 — 300 credits, $5 — 800, $12 — 2,000, $40 — 7,500. Pay with Telegram Stars or by card right in the bot. Purchased credits stay; the free part tops back up to 200 each month — up to 200, not on top of what's left.
